Indianapolis Colts Take On Falcons in German Capital – NFL Week 10
Hello, fussball fans. Wie gehts? Everything good I trust on this fine early start to the tenth week coming directly from Germany. Berlin's Olympic Stadium to be exact where at 8.30am CST/9.30am EST and 2.30pm GMT the mighty Colts (seven wins and two losses) take on the Atlanta Falcons (three wins and five losses). The fifth game played on German soil and the first in the nation’s capital.
Pregame Highlights
As sparkly jackets go that is an real standout from the Olympic figure skater on the coin toss. A slight fluff from the broadcast team there as we hear “which team got the coin flip?” from the commentator with an unfortunately hot mic.
Well, the coin toss went to Indianapolis and have elected to receive. The Colts' offense will be taking the field soon. Will the QB bounce back after a rough one in their last game?
Not to be outdone the vocalist performing the Star Spangled Banner has some of the biggest shoulder embellishments you are bound to notice. Loving the sartorial choices today. We are almost underway after a choral number for the German anthem. Classy.
First Quarter Gameplay
Scoreless at 13:30 in the first
Here we go! And we have early drama after Jonathan Taylor receives a short throw, sweeps out for 15 yards to the right side then loses the ball … only for his offensive lineman to save his bacon with the recovery. Colts are in Falcons territory already.
Colts 0-0 Falcons 10:51, 1st quarter
And the drama keeps coming as the Colts go for it on 4th down. The risk doesn't work out as Josh Downs cannot reel in a quick pass from the quarterback. On the play before the turnover on downs Jessie Bates put a huge hit on the Colts' tight end. The Falcons have come out fighting on defense as they try and snap their three-game losing streak. Following that, Sauce Gardner makes his first appearance!
Score Recap
First score: Colts lead 6-0 at 8:36
Was that a missed touchdown by Kyle Pitts? The tight end drops a clanger, he was wide open but the ball just slips through his grasp. That play rather sums up the first round pick’s career to date.
So far, so disappointing but it only deteriorates for the Falcons as they turn over possession to the Indianapolis on the 23-yard line. Michael Penix Jr is sacked and fumbles the football.
An agile 22-yard rush from the Colts receiver sets the running back up to easily run for a touchdown on the following play. Kicker Michael Badgley skews the extra point wide. Mistake.
TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-7 Falcons 6:07, 1st quarter
Penix Jr puts the fumble behind him by marching his Falcons down the field for a touchdown. Drake London makes some substantial catches to put them in the scoring area then the seas part for Tyler Allgeier to run untouched into the end zone through the heart of the field for a 13-yard gain. The running back finishes it off for a one-yard touchdown of his own. The Falcons take the lead.
Other Tenth Week Games
And for afters, the jumbo package starting at 1 PM EST and 6 PM GMT (home teams listed first) is as follows:
(5-4) Carolina Panthers v Saints (1-8)
(5-3) Chicago Bears v Giants (2-7)
(3-5) Houston Texans v Jacksonville Jaguars (5-3)
(2-7) Dolphins v Buffalo Bills (6-2)
(4-4) Vikings v Baltimore Ravens (3-5)
(1-7) New York Jets v Cleveland Browns (2-6)
(6-2) Buccaneers v New England Patriots (7-2)
An exciting lineup. My pick for the best game is Minnesota and Baltimore playing out the top contest of the day.
